Caroline, Product Management

I initially graduated from the University of Malta in 2005; I then spent a few years working as a software engineer before setting off to do a Masters in Computer Science at St Andrew’s University. The next eight years were spent as a software engineer before I specialised in integration software and even spent a year working as a consultant at Spotify, which was a fascinating experience.

After 13 years of creating software, I decided to do something different and become a product owner. I joined Betsson as a junior product owner, working mainly on smaller projects with very little if any product knowledge but have since expanded my product thinking and knowledge tremendously. I feel that I have managed to cross that bridge that allows you to stop viewing all problems only in terms of what can be achieved technically and instead really put the customer’s needs at the forefront of my thinking.

It’s been an amazing journey to get where I am today, and I’m really proud of what I have achieved. Both in work and outside. For the past 10 years I have also had a side hustle within the Maltese fashion and digital industry by working both as a fashion digital consultant, and running my own blog and social media channels.

“The most important lesson I learnt quickly on is that what drives our customers to use our sites is not the hope of winning but the actual experience of the journey. Online gaming is another form of entertainment for most of our customers, sure there is money involved but then again, most forms of entertainment are not free.”
